Slagwerk / Percussie
Meet the wonderful world of drums and percussion.
The Latin name “percussio” (to beat, rhythm, cadence) became percussion: a worldwide name for everything what has to do with drums. All music cultures have drums and we can assume that drums in combination with singing and dancing were het earliest expressions of culture. In the culture of West of Europe the drums had a functional role and were seldom heard of as a phenomenon of it's own. In many cultures this was different. Drums, often in combination with singing and dancing could be extremely complete and stimulating.
This workshop is to meet this beautiful art of music of ancient history, which is still very popular in its variety. You learn to see the phenomenon Rhythm, and get a sense of feeling with the base-structures, with tension and relaxation, contrast and dynamic. On the way you will develop your skills.
We us original Brazilian percussion instruments, big bass drums in different shapes, a lot of medium size instruments and various small hand instruments. Each one has its specific technique of playing. Some you play with sticks, some with your hands, and sometimes a combination of the two.
The workshop will have the following subjects:
- A better understanding of the beautiful phenomenon Rhythm
- To learn some base techniques for the different instruments
- Playing together a couple of rhythms
- To make a start in "variation" and how to "improvise"
- Programming these subjects and playing it
